The Valencian Community is facing a new and intense heatwave, with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activating several orange and yellow alerts for this Tuesday. The meteorological situation is marked by a mass of warm, dry air from North Africa, carrying dust in suspension, which will require maximum caution, especially in inland areas.
The inland regions of the province of València will be the most affected, with orange alerts predicting maximum temperatures of up to 40ºC between 13:00 and 21:00. In the interior of Alicante, the alert is yellow with highs of 39ºC, while the southern Alicante coast will register up to 38ºC. Areas of the northern and southern coast of València, as well as the southern interior of Castelló, will also be under yellow alert with highs of 36ºC.
In addition to the high temperatures, the southern interior of València also has a yellow alert activated for storms between 16:00 and 21:00. These afternoon phenomena could be accompanied by weak rainfall and, significantly, very strong wind gusts. "Warm downbursts" have been recorded in places like l'Albufera or la Vall d'Albaida, where thermometers experienced sudden rises of up to 9ºC in a few minutes.
The thermal sensation will notably exceed the actual temperatures due to humidity and lack of wind in some areas. Between 14:00 and 16:00, a sensation of 44ºC is expected in municipalities such as Tavernes de la Valldigna, Montitxelvo, and San Miguel de Salinas, and 43ºC in Parcent.
For Wednesday, a slight decrease in maximum temperatures is expected in much of the eastern peninsular third due to intensifying breezes, although values will remain significantly high, especially inland. However, minimum temperatures will lead to tropical nights, making sleep difficult on the coast and pre-coastal areas. Locations like Alicante or Benidorm will register minimums of 26ºC.
Historical data shared by the Valencian Meteorology Association (Avamet) highlight an alarming climate warming in the Valencian Community. The average maximum temperature in the first half of July has risen from 30.2ºC in 1966 and 30.6ºC in 1996 to 37.8ºC in 2026. Forecasts suggest that westerly winds could worsen the situation towards the end of the week, increasing the risk of forest fires.
