The municipality of Ares del Maestrat received the ‘Más Bici’ distinction yesterday, August 27th, as part of the 6th stage of ‘La Vuelta‘ Ciclista a España. This cycling event concluded in Castellón de la Plana, after traversing various locations in the province. Alongside Ares, Castellón de la Plana and Llucena were also honored.
The stage began in Alcossebre and passed through towns near Ares, such as Les Coves de Vinromà, Albocàsser, and la Serratella. During the trophy presentation ceremony, José Luis Marqués, the mayor of Ares del Maestrat, accepted the award from Javier Guillén, the general director of ‘La Vuelta‘.
The ‘Más Bici’ seal recognizes municipalities that promote cycling initiatives, both for sports and daily use. The organizers of ‘La Vuelta‘ highlighted on their social media that the award acknowledges «three municipalities that are committed to cycling and continue to promote its presence in daily life».
Ares submitted its candidacy based on having hosted ‘La Vuelta‘ in 2019 and for its various local initiatives to encourage cycling. The municipality has been recognized for its efforts in promoting cycling, leveraging its scenic surroundings.
This recognition places Ares del Maestrat on the map of ‘La Vuelta‘, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable transport and sports, and positioning it as a national hub for cycling.
