The commitment was reached during a meeting between the mayor of Montanejos, Miguel Sandalinas, provincial deputy Ximo Llopis, technicians from the Diputación, and representatives of the contracting company. The meeting addresses the complaint filed by the City Council following problems recorded between June and August.
Among the reported incidents are the lack of collection on Saturday nights, despite the contract stipulating a daily service, as well as days without service, incomplete collections, and deficiencies in container cleaning. These issues coincided with the peak tourist season, when Montanejos' population reaches 4,000, with peaks of up to 8,000, and high temperatures exacerbated the discomfort.
The City Council had to allocate municipal staff and acquire new containers with its own resources to compensate for the shortcomings, and requested a discount from the provincial fee for the services not rendered.
“"The Diputación has acknowledged the deficiencies, and we have the commitment from both the institution and the contracting company to implement the necessary measures to prevent them from happening again."
Sandalinas recalled that Montanejos is part of the provincial waste collection contract for the Alto Mijares region, which groups six municipalities. "Throughout the summer, the City Council has worked to compensate for the service's shortcomings. We positively value the willingness to solve the problems and will continue collaborating to ensure the collection functions correctly, considering that its provision corresponds to the Diputación de Castellón," he concluded.
