The Alt Maestrat region has inaugurated the Camí dels Càtars, a natural and cultural itinerary of over 100 kilometers that runs through eight municipalities to boost the local economy.

The project, presented in Benassal, aims to turn historical and landscape heritage into a quality tourism experience. The route passes through towns such as Albocàsser, Catí, Culla, La Serratella, Tírig, La Torre d’en Besora, and Vilar de Canes, as well as Benassal itself.
The initiative is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination and has had a budget of over one million euros, funded by Next Generation EU funds. A significant part of this investment has been allocated to the creation of green infrastructure, as well as the development of a digital self-guided application and route signage.

"The project demonstrates that tourism can be a real tool to generate economic activity, employment, and opportunities in inland municipalities."

In addition to this itinerary, the plan has allowed for the launch of the Network of Natural Tourist Viewpoints and improvements in the energy efficiency of municipal lighting and the Rivet Interpretation Center. The ultimate goal is to consolidate the region as a benchmark for sustainable tourism and retain population in the territory.
