Seventy percent of families in the province of Castellón have chosen Valencian as the base language for their children's education, according to the Valencian Community's Economic and Social Council (CES CV).

The regions of Alt Maestrat and Els Ports lead the preference for Valencian in education in the province of Castellón, with percentages of 95% and 93% respectively, according to the 2025 Report on the Socioeconomic and Labor Situation from the Valencian Community's Economic and Social Council (CES CV). This trend contrasts with the southern regions, such as Alt Millars (65%) and Alt Palància (72%), where Spanish predominates.
Other regions in Castellón show a clear inclination towards Valencian, including Baix Maestrat (81%), Plana Baixa (76%), Plana Alta (67%), and l'Alcalatén (64%). The geographical distribution reflects a north-south division in the choice of base language, with a greater emphasis on Valencian in the northern parts of the province.
Participation in the consultation process for choosing the base language in the Early Childhood, Primary, and Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) stages was notable in Castellón, with 59.81% of families voting, a figure that surpasses the records in Valencia (58.81%) and Alicante (57.96%).
The Law of Educational Freedom includes this consultation process, allowing families to choose the language with the most weight in their children's education, while also establishing minimum teaching hours in the other language according to the student's educational stage. The objective is to determine the distribution of classrooms by language in each school and academic year.
In Valencian-speaking areas, the distribution of units is based on the percentage of votes obtained. In Spanish-speaking areas, a Valencian unit can only be established if there is sufficient student demand.
