The mayor of Ibi, Sergio Carrasco, and the deputy mayor for Education, Paula Peidró, met this week with the president of the Mancomunidad and mayor of Gorga, Blas Calbo, accompanied by one of the entity's secretaries. The objective was to discuss the possible incorporation of Ibi into the Mancomunidad de l’Alcoià i el Comtat. This proposal will be put to a council vote and will require its approval, as well as the creation of a specific budget allocation. In the meantime, an agreement with the Mancomunidad is proposed for the student transport service for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The Mancomunidad de l’Alcoià i el Comtat is an association of municipalities that join forces to improve the quality of life for citizens in the regions. It currently comprises the towns of Agres, Alcoy, Alcoleja, Alcocer de Planes, Alfafara, Bañeres de Mariola, Benasau, Beniarrés, Cocentaina, Fageca, Gorga, l’Alqueria d’Asnar, Millena, Muro, Peñáguila, and Cuatretondeta, and covers areas such as Culture, Youth, Economic Promotion, Animal Protection Center, Social Services, and Tourism.
Given the lack of passenger transport services between towns, which particularly affects students from Ibi and their travel to study centers in neighboring towns, the Ibi City Council has sent an urgent request to the General Directorate of Transport and Logistics of the Generalitat Valenciana. It calls for the restoration and guarantee of the interurban public transport service and for an urgent review of modifications, reductions, or cancellations made to interurban public transport services affecting the municipality. This includes restoring previous services, frequencies, and schedules, or immediately establishing equivalent services that guarantee adequate connections between Ibi and other towns.

This problem particularly affects students and, generally, all users who need it for work, educational, health, or personal reasons. Therefore, we need a solution that guarantees real service coverage and a truly possible, accessible, and functional alternative to private transport, without necessarily having to depend on being part of a mancomunidad."
