The city of Alcoi is preparing for the 11th March Against Breast Cancer, an event taking place on Sunday, October 18th, to raise awareness about the disease and show support for those affected.

The solidarity initiative, jointly organized by the Alcoi City Council, Solc (Regional Association for Cancer Treatment Aid), and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), will bring together hundreds of people through the streets of Alcoi. The main objective is to raise visibility for the disease, raise awareness about the importance of early detection, and show citizen support for affected individuals and their families.
The march is sponsored by the local company Losdi and supported by Sarnatxo Animació. Registrations, with a donation of 5 euros including a commemorative t-shirt, will take place on Sunday from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM at Plaça de Dins, which will also be the gathering point for participants.
During the same registration hours, children can enjoy entertainment provided by Sarnatxo Animació, making the event a family-friendly activity.
At 12:00 PM, before the official start, a manifesto will be read by the presidents of Solc and the AECC of Alcoi, María José Grau and María Teresa Alberola. Following this, the march will follow the traditional route of the Volta als Ponts, starting from Plaça de Dins and passing through landmarks such as Sant Llorenç, País Valencià, the Maria Cristina bridge, Cervantes promenade, Els Alçamora, the Sant Roc bridge, Alameda Camilo Sesto, the Sant Jordi Bridge, and Sant Tomàs, before returning to the starting point.
The councilor for Inclusive Policies, Aroa Mira, highlighted that the march is a well-established event in Alcoi and demonstrates the city's ability to unite for important causes. She emphasized that the event raises awareness about breast cancer, supports those affected, and underscores the significance of research and early detection.
Mira expressed gratitude for the ongoing work of Solc and the AECC, as well as the involvement of Losdi and Sarnatxo Animació. She invited all citizens to participate, wear the pink t-shirt, and fill Alcoi with solidarity, reminding everyone that 'every step counts'.
October 19th marks International Breast Cancer Day, a key date to raise awareness about this disease, one of the most prevalent among women. The day advocates for prevention, early detection, research, and comprehensive care.
According to estimates from the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) and the Spanish Network of Cancer Registries (REDECAN), 38,318 new cases are projected in Spain for 2026. The Spanish Association Against Cancer estimates that 168,131 women had suffered or were suffering from the disease within a five-year period, based on epidemiological data updated in 2026.
In this context, the need to continue advancing in research, innovation, early diagnosis, and personalized treatments is emphasized, which are fundamental demands of patient associations.
