Yesterday, a simulated rescue of a swimmer took place in Cala Lanuza as part of the training and evaluation of El Campello's beach lifeguard services. The exercise mobilized the Emergency Center, Local Police, lifeguards, and paramedics.
Under the supervision of the Councilor for Security and Beaches, Rafa Galvañ, the drill began around 11:00 AM. A swimmer, positioned outside the buoy line, simulated being pulled by the current and signaled for help. The lifeguard gave the emergency signal and entered the water to begin the rescue, alerting a colleague.
The second lifeguard contacted Coordination to activate the jet ski, initiating the rescue protocol. Meanwhile, the first lifeguard provided buoyancy to the victim, approximately 300 meters from the shore. Later, a jet ski from Carrer la Mar beach joined the operation with a third lifeguard.
The victim was removed from the water at 11:11 AM for evaluation. They only showed signs of fatigue, making medical intervention unnecessary. The technical report positively assessed the operation, highlighting the lifeguard's swimming rescue and the jet ski's arrival one minute ahead of schedule.
The report also emphasizes that working in pairs improves operational activation time, as one lifeguard rescues while the other activates support resources. This procedure ensures early activation of necessary means.
Rafa Galvañ stressed the importance of these drills for detecting potential coordination failures and adapting protocols.
