The agricultural organization maintains that the current policy conditions do not fit the reality of the field, leaving numerous farms unprotected. For this reason, they have conveyed to the Department of Agriculture the need to reform this insurance line, demanding that the Generalitat defend their proposals before the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Agency for Agricultural Insurance.
The sector denounces that the current system does not take into account the diversity of cherry varieties, which have very different flowering and harvesting periods. ASAJA's proposal consists of assessing losses by varietal groups instead of the entire farm, a method they consider unfeasible for producers.
In addition, the entity warns that the individualization of coverage based on previous claims prevents many traditional farms from protecting themselves against adverse weather events. This situation, added to six campaigns marked by drought and rising costs, puts the continuity of plots in mountain regions at risk.
