The central Calle Mayor in El Campello will undergo a complete transformation with comprehensive remodeling works. The project includes planting native trees, removing the parking lane (previously reduced), establishing a speed limit, ensuring compatibility with a cycle lane, semi-pedestrianizing the road, and a complete redevelopment, including the sewage system.
The Department of Public Infrastructure, led by Cristian Palomares, has opened the tender period for the project's execution, with a base budget of 699,790.70 euros. These investments are included in the Investment Plan approved by the Municipal Plenary in 2024. Once proposals are received and studied, the Contracting Board, composed exclusively of municipal technicians, will award the works, which must be completed within six months.
This project is part of El Campello's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS). The objective is to remodel Calle Mayor into a 'single platform', improving accessibility in a key area that includes Plaza de Canalejas, Plaza de la Iglesia, and the Municipal Library. Currently, many sections lack adequate sidewalks for pedestrian traffic, hindering cultural and festive activities.
The intervention includes the renovation of all services, including sewage, with special attention to the compatibility of the final road level with existing building accesses. Tree planting is a significant element, considering the municipality's high summer temperatures. Additionally, a rainwater drainage system will be implemented to ensure water evacuation from the area and its surroundings.
The firm INGEMED, SLP, the project's designer, has been appointed contract supervisor for the execution. This initiative follows the successful model of Carrer Sant Vicent and Carrer la Mar, which were converted into single platforms.
