Hundreds of Alicante families enjoyed the Ciclovía Litoral this Sunday, the most attended event of European Mobility Week in Alicante. The event, held around La Albufereta and La Cantera, offered a traffic- and pollution-free space to enjoy the traffic park and various recreational activities.
The Councilor for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, highlighted the "great response from Alicantinians" and encouraged the use of sustainable transport such as bicycles, buses, or the TRAM. The Ciclovía allowed the circulation of bicycles and personal mobility vehicles between Puerta del Mar and La Cantera. Additionally, an information booth on scooters, a skill circuit, and a Children's Traffic Park were set up.
Last Saturday, a cycling march to La Almadraba saw high participation, with a route regulated by the Local Police's Cycling Brigade to ensure cyclist safety along the city's coastline.
The promotion of walking was also a highlight, with guided tours through unique parks, the La Cantera greenway, beaches, and the Old Town. Workshops were offered to check bicycles, and information booths on electric scooter use reminded attendees of the new regulations requiring users to be over 15, wear a helmet, lights, reflective vest, have insurance, and be registered with the DGT, with a speed limit of 25 km/h.
As part of European Mobility Week, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) organized an exhibition of historic rolling stock and the new Series 4.500 tram at the trackside of the La Marina station. Attendees could see the historic trains from the Alicante-Dénia line and the new TRAM d’Alacant tram, which will enter service soon.
The six new Tramlink trams, acquired by FGV, exceed 45 meters in length, are fully accessible, and have a capacity for 285 people, noted for their performance, universal accessibility, comfort, and safety.
