Hundreds of Alicantinian families have enjoyed the Ciclovía Litoral (Coastal Cycling Route), held in Alicante, as the central event of European Mobility Week. The event allowed participants to enjoy the traffic park and recreational activities in the vicinity of La Albufereta and La Cantera, areas closed to traffic and free of fumes. The Councilor for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, thanked the public's response and encouraged the use of sustainable transport such as bicycles, buses, or the TRAM.
The Ciclovía Litoral facilitated the circulation of bicycles and personal mobility vehicles between Puerta del Mar and La Cantera. Additionally, an information booth on scooters, a skill circuit, and a Children's Traffic Park were set up on Juan Bautista Lafora avenue. Registered participants received gifts and entered a raffle for three bicycles.
Last Saturday, a cycling march to La Almadraba saw high participation, with a route regulated by the Cycling Brigade of the Local Police to ensure safety. Furthermore, guided walking tours were organized through unique parks, the Cantera greenway, the beaches of La Albufereta, La Almadraba, and El Postiguet, as well as through the Old Town and the Santa Cruz neighborhood.
Workshops for bicycle maintenance and information booths on the use of electric scooters were also held. It is reminded that as of October 1st, electric scooter users must be over 15 years old, wear a helmet, lights, reflective vest, have insurance and registration, and not exceed 25 km/h.
During the week, a mobile photography contest was held with prizes of Mobilis cards for using the urban bus service.
As part of these activities, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) organized an exhibition of historical rolling stock and the new Series 4.500 tram at the La Marina station. Attendees could see the historic trains from the Alicante-Dénia line and learn about the new TRAM d’Alacant tram, which will soon enter commercial service.
The six new Tramlink trams, acquired by FGV from Stadler Rail Valencia, are already undergoing test runs. These units exceed 45 meters in length, are fully accessible, and have a capacity for 285 people, standing out for their safety and comfort.
