Finally, this Friday, the damaged truck carrying pigs, which had been at the bottom of a ravine in the municipality of Forcall since June 23rd, has been recovered. The recovery operation took 17 days.
From early morning, two cranes worked on a complex vehicle extraction operation. To carry out the maneuvers, the CV-124 road, connecting Forcall and Cinctorres, had to be completely closed while the tasks were underway.
The work was conducted under strict safety measures. Operators used personal protective equipment and masks due to the sanitary conditions in the area, where the animals were in an advanced state of decomposition after more than two weeks exposed to high temperatures.
The Forcall Town Council had already informed residents on Thursday about the road closure scheduled for Friday morning, from 6:00 AM until the work was completed.
The accident occurred on June 23rd when the truck, carrying 205 pigs, fell down a twenty-meter embankment. The driver, 68 years old, was injured and taken to the General Hospital of Castellón.
Five days after the accident, a forest fire started in the area where the crashed truck was located. The fire burned 145 hectares and required a large-scale extinguishing operation with air and ground resources, as well as the collaboration of local residents.
With the vehicle's removal, one of the most complex operations resulting from an incident that has had a significant environmental and sanitary impact on the area for weeks concludes.
