The Paseo de la Explanada promenade and the parking area of the Jardines Alcalde Vicente Maestre will be better connected thanks to the construction of a new staircase. The project, presented by Urban Planning Councilor David Morcillo and Childhood and Youth Councilor Alejandro Ruiz, along with municipal architect Fernando Cerdá, aims to improve accessibility to this area of Petrer.
The future staircase will provide access to both the parking lot and the new Youth Leisure Center, located behind the Antiguas Escuelas Graduadas (Old Primary Schools). According to Morcillo, this work "provides a solution" for access, and foundation work is already underway to begin construction in the coming weeks, calling it "an architectural challenge".
The intervention will consist of a two-flight staircase with an intermediate landing to overcome the existing height difference. Municipal architect Fernando Cerdá explained that while a ramp would have been preferred, an existing irrigation channel in the parking area prevents it. Therefore, a pedestrian crossing on the Explanada will be utilized for a quick connection, also accommodating the trees.
Councilor for Childhood and Youth, Alejandro Ruiz, emphasized the importance of accessibility, connection, and convenience for users of the future center, which will be "the nerve center for the youth of Petrer." He noted that the space will feature "many square meters, with various multipurpose, dynamic, and accessible rooms" to meet the needs of young people.
