The season kicks off this Sunday the 27th with a new edition of Llibres en Pantalla (Books on Screen), coordinated by the Associació Cultural Club de Lectura l’Eliana (L'Eliana Reading Club Cultural Association). The cycle, titled ‘Literatura i Compromís Social’ (Literature and Social Commitment), proposes a journey through films that dialogue with literary works, testimonies, historical memory texts, and narrative journalism. The first screening will be ‘El canto de las novias’ (The Song of the Brides), a French film directed by Karin Albou that addresses the coexistence between Jewish and Muslim communities in Tunisia during World War II. Sessions for this cycle will take place on Sundays at 6:00 PM in the Sala Pep Torrent.
The second regular offering is the Fòrum Clàssics del Cinematògraf (Classic Cinema Forum), organized by the Associació d’Amics del Cinema Clàssic de l’Eliana (Association of Friends of Classic Cinema of L'Eliana). This cycle will be held on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM, also in the Sala Pep Torrent. The inaugural session, next Wednesday the 30th, will be dedicated to Charles Chaplin and will include the short film ‘Charlot, campeón de boxeo’ (The Tramp, Boxing Champion) from 1915 and the feature film ‘El chico’ (The Kid) from 1921.
With this program, film enthusiasts can once again enjoy filmmakers and key figures in cinema history on the big screen. Among the planned titles are ‘La gata sobre el tejado de zinc’ (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) by Richard Brooks, ‘Náufragos’ (Lifeboat) by Alfred Hitchcock, ‘Plácido’ by Luis García Berlanga, and ‘El salario del miedo’ (The Wages of Fear) by H. G. Clouzot, among many other proposals.
The season, which will run until June 2027, solidifies the film cycles as one of L'Eliana's stable cultural offerings, combining the revival of great works of the seventh art with contemporary films aimed at generating debate and reflection among the public.
