Municipal regulations stipulate that the cleaning and maintenance of private plots are the responsibility of the owners. The deadline to comply with this obligation expired on June 15, and failure to do so results in financial penalties. The primary objective of this measure is to prevent risks such as the spread of fires during the summer and to avoid the formation of uncontrolled dumps that negatively affect the environment and public health.
The Councilor for Urbanizations and Municipal Waste Service, M. Cruz García, has highlighted that the council conducts a continuous campaign of information and awareness regarding plot maintenance. Although many owners comply, there are still numerous plots that require action from municipal inspection.
In the two months following the deadline, 422 penalty files have been opened. These actions have been carried out by both the Local Police and Urban Planning Surveillance, as well as resulting from citizen complaints received through official channels.
The regulations apply to both natural and legal persons who own or possess land within the municipal area. They aim to combat the accumulation of waste, uncontrolled vegetation, fire risk, and the deterioration of the urban landscape. Third parties who dump waste on others' plots may also be penalized.
One of the fundamental obligations is to keep plots free of vegetation and flammable materials that could cause fires. Owners must collect and dispose of this debris. The regulation also prohibits dumping any type of waste on plots, except in designated areas such as containers, ecoparks, or through municipal services for pruning, selective waste, and bulky item collection.
The council has already processed several sanctions against non-compliant owners, with fines that can reach up to 3,000 euros, depending on the severity of the infraction and the generated fire risk.
