The bullfighting events in Sagunt concluded late on Sunday with the 'desmontada de cadafales', marking the end of a week filled with spectacles including 'bous embolats' (bulls with flaming balls on their horns), 'vaques enfundades' (cows with protective coverings), and a contest for bull-handlers. This year, the bullfighting activities resulted in three hospital transfers, a 70% decrease compared to last year's 11. Two of the incidents involved goring by a bull's horn, and all occurred on the first day of the 'bous al carrer' (street bullfights).
No significant incidents were reported during the orchestra and mobile disco events, a success attributed to the extensive police deployment, which included five to six patrols daily and a support drone, as stated by the councilor for the area, María José Carrera. The president of the Federation of Peñas of Sagunt, Ricardo Meliá, praised the effective organization, prevention, and security measures, as well as the public's conduct and the work of professionals and involved teams.
Despite the conclusion of the bullfighting events, the festivities continue and are heading into their final stretch after an intense weekend featuring the 'bous embolats' and the parade as notable events. High temperatures led to the postponement of some activities, such as the costume parade.
Monday's schedule includes the anticipated children's 'xopà' (a traditional water-sprinkling event) with its 'tro d'avís' (warning signal) at the town hall entrance, followed by afternoon activities for children. Additionally, there will be an 'All i Oli' (garlic sauce) contest and a mobile disco with Aitor García in Plaça Cronista Chabret. Tuesday will feature a children's musical based on The Lion King and a tribute concert to Amaral.
Wednesday is set to be a major day with the traditional 'ollas' (a communal cooking event) starting at 8 PM, which typically draws local and regional political representatives, as well as prominent business figures and entities like the Federació Junta Fallera de Sagunt, gathering hundreds in Plaça Cronista Chabret. The evening will conclude with a performance by the orchestra Nova Alaska. The celebration of Sagunt's patron saints, Abdón and Senén, will take place on Thursday with the traditional procession and a fireworks display.
