The Ministry of Education has provided an additional 1,098,682 euros for the new educational center project, as part of the Pla Edificant. This increase responds to a price review requested by the current municipal government, following the unsuccessful bidding for CEIP Braçal, which the town hall attributed to underfunding and outdated cost modules.
The previous mayor, Rafa Mateu, had already denounced the insufficiency of the initial budget in 2022 and refused to tender the work, renouncing the agreement signed with Education. Now, with the new budget of 5,939,000 euros, the town hall plans to put the construction out to tender this quarter to begin the work in early 2027. The project includes the demolition of the current building and the construction of a new facility with a ground floor and a first floor.
The new CEIP Braçal will put an end to the problems of prefabricated classrooms and lack of space, which had forced the dining hall to be set up outside the center. The new building will feature six Primary classrooms, four Infant classrooms (one for two-year-olds), a dining hall with a kitchen, new offices, multipurpose rooms, a library, a computer room, and a proper gymnasium, in addition to sports courts, to accommodate approximately 150 students.
Although the project is moving forward, the provisional relocation of students still presents complications. The town hall is processing the location of provisional facilities in the "old nursery" and the "musical" premises, where prefabricated modules will be added. This move cannot be completed before the start of the school year, pending permits and final ratification from the Ministry. The relocation will occur "during the course," explained the mayor, Francesc Mateu, who does not rule out using the house of culture for provisional offices.
