Researchers and members of the InTeO research group at the UMH, Desirée Valera Gran and Eva María Navarrete Muñoz, presented the initiative's objectives during a working meeting with the mayor, Irene Navarro Díaz; the Councilor for Equality and Social Services, Ana Tortosa Bañón; and the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Peace, and Solidarity, Juana Ochoa Cano.
During the meeting, potential collaboration avenues were explored for developing a pilot study in the municipality. In parallel, the researchers met with the director of the Active Aging Center (CEA) of Petrer, Antonio M. Senent Martínez, to establish alliances with key community resources.
Both the Petrer City Council and the CEA have shown their interest and support for the initiative, agreeing to begin preparations for the pilot study. These meetings represent a first step towards strengthening collaboration between the UMH, local institutions, and community resources in promoting active aging and social participation among older adults.
The POMA-Co project aims to estimate the prevalence of occupational dysfunction in older adults and analyze its association with indicators of health, well-being, and quality of life. Furthermore, it seeks to identify community barriers and facilitators, as well as gather proposals from older adults themselves to foster their participation and well-being, combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
