The Vice-Rectorate for Culture, Equality, and Diversity at the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) has spearheaded the creation of the Virtual Hemp Museum of Redován. This new space is born from ethnographic research, oral memory, historical documentation, artistic creation, and the use of new technologies.
The official public presentation and its corresponding immersive experience will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29th, at 12:00 PM, at the Barraca La Gramaera in Redován. The event will be led by Vice-Rector Susi Amorós.
The project, funded by the Provincial Council of Alicante with collaboration from the Redován City Council and the Barraca La Gramaera Cultural Association, culminates an interdisciplinary effort encompassing research, documentation, museography, artistic creation, and technological development.
Based on oral history and the knowledge preserved in Redován regarding the traditional cultivation and processing of hemp, a Virtual Hemp Museum and Metaverse have been developed. The aim is to preserve this heritage and create new avenues for access, research, and dissemination.
The initiative demonstrates the University's capacity to work with the territory, transfer knowledge, and actively contribute to the conservation and promotion of its cultural heritage.
