The Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has joined the Interuniversity Council for Mental Health of the Valencian Community (CISAM-CV), Spain's first body of its kind, created by the Generalitat Valenciana to enhance university well-being.

The CISAM-CV, affiliated with the Conselleria de Educación, Cultura y Universidades, aims to standardize and strengthen mental health actions within higher education. This new body will be chaired by the regional secretary for Universities, Esther Gómez, with participation from the Director General of Universities, José Antonio Pérez Juan, and representatives from the Generalitat Valenciana in health and inclusion matters.
Technical coordination of the new body will be led by María del Carmen Pastor Verchili from the Universitat Jaume I, while the UMH will be represented by the delegate of the Rector for Healthy Campuses and Sports, Raúl Reina. The UMH's participation, alongside the other eight public and private Valencian universities, seeks to provide a coordinated response to the emotional needs of students and university staff.
The CISAM-CV is structured around four priority lines: promoting emotional well-being by addressing mental health holistically alongside healthy habits and addiction prevention; coordinating psychological support programs and defining a minimum service portfolio; harmonizing health protocols and referral pathways with the public health network; and providing advice and active participation to integrate the university community's voice into regional strategies.
Among the projects planned until the end of 2026, the UMH will contribute to developing a consensus document on emotional well-being services and minimum criteria, building upon the resource mapping initiated in 2023. Furthermore, it will lead the creation of a public digital repository for resources on promotion, prevention, detection/referral, and support. These actions will be channeled through the Rector's Delegation and the UMH's Psychological Counseling Unit.
