The August Photo of the Month focuses on the Font Antiga or Mina del Poble, a historic water mine located in the El Castellar area. This hydraulic resource, already mentioned by the Arab geographer Al-Himyari in the 11th century, was channeled in medieval times using the Muslim qanat hydraulic system, with a 1,325-meter gallery and 19 ventilation shafts. Its flow rate was 72 liters and 21 centiliters per second.
The water from this mine was essential for human and domestic consumption, agricultural irrigation, and as motive power for flour mills. The Font Antiga, praised by Cavanilles, was in operation until the 1970s. The documentary collection related to this topic was donated to the archive in 2010 by Salvador Puig Fuentes.
Meanwhile, the September Photo of the Month features an image from the II Carpet Exhibition, held in 1969. The event, organized by the then Holy Week Patronage, took place in the venue adjacent to the current Las Palmeras Restaurant.
This exhibition brought together the most important crevillentinian textile companies of the time, serving as a platform to promote the local industry beyond its borders. The annual event was attended by local authorities, led by the mayor, and the then Civil Governor, and took place between March 28 and April 8, 1969.
Furthermore, on August 22, the municipal archivist, Bibiana Candela Oliver, participated in the RNE program “No es un día cualquiera” (It's Not Just Any Day). During her intervention, she highlighted the daily work of the Municipal Archive and the most characteristic aspects of Crevillent, such as its industry, tourism, and festivals, including those of San Cayetano and the upcoming Moors and Christians.
