The Nit de l’Albà, known as the 'most magical night of the year,' will turn night into day with an unprecedented pyrotechnic display in Elche. A total of 2.8 tons of gunpowder and over 88,000 units will be launched, marking the largest amount of gunpowder ever fired on August 13th in the city's history.
The Councilor for Festivals, Inma Mora, presented the celebration, emphasizing it as an offering of gunpowder to the patron saint, the Virgin of the Assumption, and a symbol of the city's identity. The event will feature twenty firing points across the municipality and will commence at 11:15 PM.
Pirotecnia Ferrández will be responsible for the event, which will run from 11:15 PM to midnight, culminating with the launch of the 'Palmera de la Virgen' from the bell tower of the Basilica of Santa María. Shortly before 11:55 PM, the 'Gloria Patri' will be sung as a prelude.
Specifically, 312 palm trees, over 6,000 dozen rockets, and 1,080 imperial rockets that form the 'Palmera de la Virgen' will be launched. As a novelty, 180 dozen colored rockets and 100 shell units will be included in the first five minutes of the display.
The manager of the pyrotechnics company, Joaquín Ferrández, explained that the 'Palmera de la Virgen' will consist of 1,080 rockets and 98 kilograms of gunpowder, featuring a pearl white color effect with a 'crying' effect, designed to last about 25-26 seconds in the sky at an altitude of over 300 meters.
During the presentation, Ferrández remembered his uncle, Manuel Ferrández, who passed away last year and was responsible for launching the 'Palmera de la Virgen' for many years. This year's Nit de l’Albà will be dedicated to his memory.
