Modernization efforts for public lighting with the installation of LED technology continue in Elche, with significant interventions in the Altabix and Sector V neighborhoods. The mayor, Pablo Ruz, along with the Councilor for Public Services, Claudio Guilabert, visited the works on Sucre street, as part of the progressive transformation plan for municipal lighting.
Since the beginning of the term, a total of 8,103 streetlights have been replaced throughout the municipality, representing the largest investment made to date in this area. This renovation allows for the transition from the traditional sodium vapor model to LED technology.
Currently, the work is concentrated in Altabix, where 775 LED luminaires are being installed, and in Sector V, with the incorporation of another 822. In total, this amounts to 1,597 luminaires distributed across 90 streets, with power ratings adapted to the needs of each road.
In parallel, work is being carried out with new cast iron columns and LED luminaires in various parts of the city, including Avenida de la Comunidad Valenciana, Reina Victoria, Eugenio d’Ors, Curtidores, Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, and Candalix. A total of 111 columns of 8.2 meters and 66 columns of 3.40 meters will be installed.
The lighting modernization has also reached other areas since 2023, including Carrús (with 1,900 luminaires), the Municipal Park (200), the Santa Teresa Bridge (18), the historic center (maintaining an aesthetic consistent with the heritage environment), and districts such as Arenales del Sol, La Marina, and El Altet.
The mayor highlighted the economic impact of this renovation. Currently, the LED lighting plan has already generated savings of 800,000 euros on the electricity bill, with a projection to reach two million euros in accumulated savings by 2027.
