The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has declared a red alert for heat in Elche this Thursday, July 23, between 12 PM and 8 PM. This is the highest level of warning for extreme temperatures.
Consequently, from 12:00 PM onwards, all outdoor activities are suspended, and the protocol for assisting homeless individuals is activated. It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure, reduce physical activity, and maintain frequent hydration, especially for minors, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.
Despite the perceived temperature, the importance of drinking water frequently, even without feeling thirsty, and staying in cool, shaded, or air-conditioned spaces is emphasized. It is also suggested to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, protect oneself from the sun with a hat, and take light showers if possible. Alcohol consumption is discouraged, and a call is made to never leave the elderly, minors, or animals locked in vehicles.
Furthermore, the recommendation to call 112 in case of any symptoms such as dizziness, headache, or fatigue is reiterated.
