The Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche and the Vectalia Group have renewed their collaboration agreement to continue and enhance the Casa Sicilia Chair of Wine Tourism and Culture, which celebrates its tenth anniversary.

One of the main novelties will be the II UMH Wine Fair, to be held on November 30th at Casa Mediterráneo (Alicante). At this fair, 25 wineries run by UMH alumni will showcase their wines from Alicante, Murcia, Toro, Rueda, the Canary Islands, France, Portugal, and Sicily, which will be the guest region.
At this university wine fair, attendees, including professionals from the sommelier, restaurant, and hospitality sectors, will select a red, a white, and a rosé wine as the UMH wines for the year.
The fundamental pillars of the Casa Sicilia Chair are wine tourism, an important factor for a province like Alicante which receives over 8 million tourists annually, and wine culture, addressing challenges such as climate change and new consumption habits.
The Chair, established in 2016, was the first university wine tourism chair in Spain. Its functions include organizing forums and academic meetings. Recently, the 'Wine Tourism in the Age of Intelligent Assistants' conference was held, where experts discussed the use of artificial intelligence in the wine tourism experience.
Other activities include the III Culinary Encounter of Wine and Letters with sommelier Meritxell Falgueras, the celebration of Earth Day at the winery with the inauguration of the Doña Julia Garden, and collaboration in the 'Wine Tourism for Women' workshops.
The Casa Sicilia Chair involves UMH professor María Asunción Agulló from the Area of Economics, Sociology, and Agrarian Policy, and Ezequiel Moltó, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations at Vectalia. The Advisory Council includes professors África Martínez and Irene Arias, with participation from winery representatives Alin Campeanu and José Vicente Guillem.
