“"This new contribution allows us to continue advancing in the transformation of La Cantereria, an action that has been recognized as exemplary and has made us a benchmark inside and outside of Spain. The acquisition and demolition of these properties are a necessary step to continue recovering this area, eliminating dilapidated buildings and expanding the transformation of this space, which is now much safer and prepared for future flooding events."

The Ontinyent City Council will expand the Mamás Belgas park in the La Cantereria area with a new contribution of 450,000 euros from the Generalitat Valenciana. The Consell Plenary approved a collaboration agreement this Friday.
The agreement, promoted by the First Vice Presidency and Ministry of Housing, Employment, Youth and Equality, includes a regional contribution of 450,000 euros. These funds will be used for the acquisition and subsequent demolition of six homes located between numbers 115 and 125 of Cantereria street. These are properties that were abandoned due to their dilapidated state following the effects of the DANA in 2019 and Storm Gloria in 2020. The agreement also includes the demolition of the property located at Avenida de Valencia 4A, which has already been acquired by the City Council.
This new contribution continues the collaboration between the Generalitat and the Ontinyent City Council to transform this urban space, which was particularly affected by the floods the city suffered years ago. The La Cantereria project aims to recover this area near the Clariano River, reduce vulnerability to future flooding events, and move towards a safer, more sustainable urban model adapted to the effects of climate change.
The councilor also highlighted the collaboration between administrations, stating that “the continuity of the Generalitat's support is important to be able to continue developing an urban regeneration project that, due to its dimension and characteristics, requires the involvement of different institutions”.
