The city of Ontinyent celebrates its long-awaited Moors and Christians Parade today, resuming festivities after the storm forced the cancellation of the Bands Parade.

Following the disappointment caused by the severe storm that hit the Vall d’Albaida, Ontinyent is now resuming its most anticipated day with full splendor: the grand Moors and Christians Parade. The festival, which was initially set to begin with the massive Bands Parade and the performance of the march ‘Chimo’, is being rescheduled in the face of adverse weather conditions.
The 2026 captaincies will be led by Ricardo Enguix, captain of the Christian side for the Estudiantes (Students) comparsa (founded in 1860), and Juan Luis Galiana, the Moorish captain for the Moros Marinos comparsa (established in 1865). These historical figures will lead the afternoon and evening parades respectively, showcasing their characteristic color and attire.
The festive day will commence at 11:00 AM with the Children's Parade, which will proceed along Daniel Gil Avenue, Plaça de la Concepció, Gomis, Maians, and Plaça Major. At 1:00 PM, the Textile Museum will host a performance by the group Soulomonics.
The highlight of the afternoon will begin at 6:00 PM with the Christian Side's Parade, led by the Estudiantes captaincy. In the evening, at 10:00 PM, it will be the turn of the Moorish Side's Parade, featuring the Moros Marinos and their captain. Both parades will march along Almaig and Daniel Gil Avenues to the Glorieta dels Moros i Cristians.
The grand day will conclude at 1:00 AM with a nighttime concert at La Glorieta by the Orquestra Mónaco.
