The city of Ontinyent is preparing to celebrate the 18th Ontijazz Festival, organized by the Ad Libitum academy with the support of the City Council. The event will take place on July 23rd and 30th in the recently renovated Plaça de la Concepció, offering an innovative musical proposal that blends different styles. Additionally, five local hospitality establishments will offer special menus to accompany the performances.
The first concert, scheduled for July 23rd at 10:30 PM, will feature “Kind of Metal”. This group, led by drummer Anton Lark, comes from Barcelona and presents an unprecedented fusion of heavy metal and jazz. Local trumpeter Àlex López, recognized for his distinguished career in jazz, will join as a special collaborator.
The second concert, on July 30th, will be headlined by the “Gerard Verger Quartet”. This ensemble brings together some of the most prominent Valencian musicians of the moment: saxophonist Gerard Verger, guitarist David Garsizki, drummer Edu Olmedo, and double bassist Rubén Martí. Their repertoire will focus on reinterpreting jazz standards from perspectives such as Latin jazz, bossa nova, pop, and rock.
The Councilor for Culture, Àlex Borrell, highlighted the suitability of the Plaça de la Concepció as a venue for these cultural events. He thanked the involvement of Ad Libitum, the sponsors, and the collaborating hospitality businesses, who make the combination of music and gastronomy possible. Luis Martínez, representing the establishments Roma, Wait, Taulell, Orishas, and Maybe, encouraged citizens to book in advance to enjoy a unique experience.
Ontijazz is part of an extensive cultural program taking place throughout July in Ontinyent, thus reinforcing the leisure and cultural offerings for all audiences.
