The Alfarrasí City Council has completed the transformation of the former municipal football field, turning it into a new community meeting space with the creation of a municipal gym and a large outdoor sports area. This project revives facilities that had been underutilized for years and addresses one of the most persistent demands from citizens through participatory budgets.
The total investment amounts to approximately 315,000 euros. Of this sum, 280,000 euros were allocated to the comprehensive renovation of the complex, co-financed by 90% from the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and the remainder from the Investment Plan of the Provincial Council of Valencia. Additionally, over 30,000 euros were invested in equipping the new gym, fully funded by the Provincial Council.
The mayor of Alfarrasí, Ismael Sanvíctor, highlighted that this initiative "is an example of this government team's way of working." He emphasized active listening to residents, seeking external funding, and leveraging aid calls to execute projects that improve residents' quality of life "without increasing the City Council's financial burden," managing "every public euro to generate the greatest possible benefit."
The former football field, which ceased to be used after the local team disbanded, later saw the construction of an athletics track with little use. The current government team decided to reclaim this space to convert it into a modern, accessible sports complex open to all ages.
The main novelty is the creation of Alfarrasí's first municipal gym, a community request that emerged from the Participatory Budgets. An old changing room of over 90 square meters has been rehabilitated, with the existing asbestos roof removed and managed according to regulations. The new gym, which will be operational before the end of the year, will feature fifteen strength and cardio training machines.
The improvement of the complex includes the preservation and adaptation of the athletics track, creating an indoor calisthenics area and another equipped with biosafety apparatus. Furthermore, a skate park has been set up in a dead-end street, a pergola has been installed, a new pedestrian access created, and more than 40 trees planted to provide shade.
The project also involved a complete renovation of the lighting with high-efficiency LED technology, which will reduce the energy consumption of these facilities by approximately 80%.
Sanvíctor concluded that "with this action, we are recovering a space that had lost its utility and turning it into modern, accessible facilities designed for all ages," with the aim of "continuing to provide Alfarrasí with services that meet the real needs of its residents and taking advantage of all funding opportunities."
