The Oliva City Council approved in its July plenary session a credit modification that includes a budget of 70,000 euros for the technical equipment and regulation of the building, marking the final step before its opening. The municipal aim is for the inauguration to take place in September.
After obtaining the necessary technical reports, the council recently tendered the furniture for the Salvador Cardona Miralles Cultural Center, with a budget of 112,512.40 euros. Proposals can be submitted until Tuesday, August 11, 2026, on the public contracting platform.
The culture department, led by Tere Tur, is finalizing the details for this event, which is anticipated to be one of the most significant of the year for the city.
The Cultural Center will open with a retrospective exhibition of local painter Miquel Vicens, and simultaneously, an official ceremony will be held where he will be named "Fill Predilecte d’Oliva" (Favorite Son of Oliva).
The building will feature an exhibition hall, two conference rooms, offices, administrative spaces, and a cafeteria open to all users. Furthermore, a prior public consultation period has been opened for the development of its usage regulations, which will be available until August 26, 2026.
With this new Cultural Center, Oliva embarks on a new era intended to be a hub for cultural activity, hosting talks, exhibitions, book presentations, concerts, and other events that promote local culture and heritage.
The project, which began with the acquisition and renovation of the old house of the Centro Olivense in 2009, will finally see the light after 17 years. The works experienced several delays and project modifications, including archaeological surveys in 2012 and a new tender that was declared void in 2022. Finally, the works were awarded in 2023 to Lado Obras S.L.U. and have been completed.
