The images captured by these cameras, along with the agents' investigative work, allow for progress in the proceedings. This summer, several burglaries have occurred within the urban center. The head of the Local Police, Pedro Bofí, notes the return of "murcigleros" (burglars who enter homes while residents are inside), who often flee when detected.
The new LPR cameras offer superior quality to existing ones, able to read license plates even at night and while the vehicle is moving, as well as identify the model. With this data, the Local Police can cross-reference information.
In one of the burglaries, which occurred three weeks ago, the cameras captured the two individuals and the driver fleeing along the N-332. The proceedings were handed over to the Guardia Civil. In another case last Wednesday, four people were involved in a similar burglary, with two entering to steal, one acting as a lookout, and a driver. The Local Police have recorded all public movements.
The judge ultimately decides whether these recordings are admitted as evidence. Similar cameras in other municipalities have also shown a deterrent effect on public safety.
