La Safor, with municipalities such as Gandia, Oliva, and Tavernes de la Valldigna leading the way, vibrated last night with Spain's second World Cup football championship title. Thousands of people followed the tense final against Argentina, which was decided in extra time with a goal from Valencian player Ferran Torres.
Citizens of the region were able to enjoy the match on giant screens set up by the town councils, in bars, or from their homes. The celebration continued into the early hours, with families gathered to commemorate this new historic achievement in Spanish football.
Although Gandia, Oliva, and Tavernes de la Valldigna gathered the largest number of fans, the smaller municipalities in the region also joined the collective cheer to support the national team in this sporting event.
