The Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) campus in Gandia was the venue where Daniel Muñoz and Xavi Ródenas, former students, presented the 5th Safor Mountain Fair. The event will take place in Gandia from November 21st to 29th, offering a blend of sports, natural space conservation, culture, and activities related to the rural world.
Organizers highlighted the importance of fostering the connection between citizens and the mountains, as well as raising awareness about the effects of the climate emergency. The fair also emphasizes the social and economic dimensions, aiming to give visibility to those who live and work in rural areas.
The program includes over 35 activities for all audiences, featuring 11 excursions, 20 talks, two debates, two concerts, and two exhibitions. There will also be children's activities, workshops, demonstrations, sports events, and a popular communal meal.
Marxuquera square will be the central hub of the fair on November 21st and 22nd, with the presence of hiking groups, artisans, and local producers. Planned activities include a rescue helicopter demonstration, a 5.5-meter portable climbing wall with specialized instructors, and a cycling race for children.
A key novelty this year is the change of venue for the V Valencian Country Mountain Film Showcase, which will be held on November 26th and 27th at 6 PM in the Teatre del Raval, with free admission.
The program will feature 96-year-old alpinist Jordi Pons, who will present a documentary about his career alongside filmmaker Joan Quintana. The all-female climbing group Dones Trangoworld, including Valencian climber Rosa Real, will also premiere a documentary about their experiences.
The fair continues on Saturday, November 28th, with the II Falconera Climbing Rally in Marxuquera, and concludes on Sunday, November 29th, with the I Safor Gravel Ride.
Organizers have invited the university community of the Gandia campus to participate in this initiative, organized by the Gandia City Council and the Safor Excursionist Society.
