A total of eight municipalities in La Safor hosted the initiatives from the Mancomunitat's Environmental Education Service. The activities took place in Barx, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Miramar, Castellonet de la Conquesta, Almoines, Ròtova, Bellreguard, and Guardamar de La Safor, reaching six summer schools and kindergartens, four promenades, and one volunteer group.
On the promenades, the focus was on Mediterranean coastal ecosystems, marine biodiversity, the conservation of La Safor's beaches, the threats they face, and waste management. In schools and kindergartens, games and workshops were used to address topics such as waste separation, building musical instruments from recycled materials, energy saving, renewable energies, and water conservation. The relationship between mosquitoes and climate change was also a recurring theme.
Meanwhile, the environmental volunteer group focused on sustainable food and the importance of local products for the regional economy. Discussions were also held on clothing consumption and textile waste, particularly among younger participants, promoting tools to extend the lifespan of garments. A collaboration with a local resident expert in sewing allowed for a practical clothing transformation workshop, highlighting the autonomy gained from reusing and creating one's own items.
The Environmental Education Service emphasizes that caring for the environment goes beyond understanding problems; it involves acquiring tools for action and transforming daily habits. This service of the Mancomunitat of La Safor conducts environmental awareness and training actions for the region, focusing on waste management, water and energy saving, and climate change adaptation.
