The city of Sueca commemorated Women Writers' Day with a special event at the Municipal Public Library. The gathering, under the theme «Friends as a form of freedom», also served to celebrate the centenary of the Lyceum Club Femení, an institution founded in 1926 that was key as a meeting and support space for women's participation in intellectual, artistic, and public life.
The Councilor for Culture, Mercé Sorrentino, highlighted the importance of the day: “The main objective of celebrating this day, as has been done in recent years, is to champion the voice and legacy of so many women who have written, created, and moved us, but who have often been forgotten by history. Today, we not only want to remember them, but to return them to their rightful place”.
The event featured Cristina Escrivà, a writer and cultural manager, who delivered a talk titled «The Ladies' Residence in Valencia during the Spanish Civil War». Afterwards, attendees were invited to read texts related to the Lyceum Club Femení.
Among the participants were councilors Mercé Sorrentino and Pilar Moncho; the training coordinator for Women’s Legacy and member of the Asociación Clásicas y Modernas, Rosa Roig; as well as members of the reading clubs from Riola, Fortaleny, and Sueca.
