The event aims to highlight the dimension of one of our most respected authors. According to academic Àngels Gregori, «Martí Domínguez is a leading Valencian writer within the literature of the linguistic sphere. A humanist, who has approached science and letters as sages do, in permanent connection».
A dozen scholars, ranging from biology to journalism, will analyze the writer's work. Gregori highlights Domínguez's ability to connect idea-driven narrative, where fiction, biography, and scientific context are inseparable. «Our honoree emphasizes, through his works, not only bringing us closer to historical figures but also making us understand, through them, the contradictions of an era», she states.
The event, presented by AVL president Maria Àngels Francés, will take place on Thursday, October 1st, starting at 12:00 PM, at the Centre Cultural La Nau. The inaugural panel «The Writer's Responsibility: Literature of Ideas in Martí Domínguez's Work» will feature Núria Cadenes, Gonçal López Pampló, and Josep Lluch, moderated by Carme Manuel. The journalistic aspect will be analyzed by journalists Alfons García, Clàudia Pujol, and Adolf Beltran, moderated by Xavier Aliaga.
In the afternoon, the conversation «Scientific Humanism. A Constant Investigation by Martí Domínguez» will bring together scientists Salvador Macip and Ramon Folch, led by Maria Àngels Francés. Subsequently, editor Emili Rosales and Martí Domínguez will analyze «The Lives of Vasari», with Àngels Gregori. The closing remarks will be given by Borja de Riquer and Xavier Pla, moderated by former academic Josep Palomero.
The 'Passió intacta' Conference is part of the AVL's annual 'Escriptor Actual' program, which has honored figures such as Ferran Torrent, Josep Piera, Emili Rodríguez-Bernabeu, Rodolf Sirera, Marc Granell, Teresa Pascual, Josep Lozano, Joan Francesc Mira, Jaume Pérez Montaner, Enric Sòria, among others.
Martí Domínguez holds a PhD in Biology and is a Professor of Journalism at the Universitat de València. He received the National Journalism Award as director of the scientific magazine Mètode. As a novelist, he is the author of the trilogy comprising Les confidències del comte de Buffon, El secret de Goethe, and El retorn de Voltaire, as well as La sega (Critics' Award and Serra d’Or Award), L’esperit del temps (Òmnium Award), Mater (Proa Novel Award), and Ingrata pàtria. As an essayist, he has been recognized with the Carles Rahola Award for El somni de Lucreci and the Premi de les Bones Lletres for Del natural.
