The Ministry of Health has commissioned a consulting firm to conduct a detailed report on the current state of the old Santa Llúcia hospital in Alzira. The objective is to determine the necessary actions for a potential renovation of the property, which ceased to function as a hospital center in 1999 with the opening of the Hospital de la Ribera.
The mayor of Alzira, Alfons Domínguez, has emphasized the City Council's constant demand for the building's return to municipal ownership. Domínguez recalled that in 2014 the Ministry proposed a return that was rejected by the council, arguing that the building was ceded in good condition and should be returned in a similar state, not dilapidated.
After years of stagnation, the City Council had considered taking legal action. According to the mayor, the intention to legally challenge the situation has prompted the Ministry to take action. A consulting team has already visited the facilities to analyze their condition and estimate renovation costs.
Domínguez believes the building could regain a health function or house socio-health services. He mentioned entities such as AFA, Afaradem, Adafir, or Adispac as potential beneficiaries, as well as strengthening care for the elderly.
