The Municipal Museum of Alzira (MUMA) will host the emblematic painting by Ignacio Pinazo, "El rei Don Jaume entrega la espada a su hijo" (1881), next September. The artwork, loaned by the Diputació de València, arrives in the city as part of the commemoration of the 750th anniversary of the death of King James I the Conqueror.
The painting depicts the monarch's final moments before abdicating in favor of his son, Peter the Great. This work, measuring 304 x 418 centimeters, was previously presented at the National Exhibition of 1881, where Ignacio Pinazo received the second medal.
The President of the Diputació de València, Vicent Mompó, confirmed the loan, highlighting the preparation of a special commemoration for the anniversary. The mayor of Alzira, Alfons Domínguez, expressed his gratitude to the Diputació and the Culture Deputy, Paco Teruel, for bringing this important piece back to Alzira.
This painting was Ignacio Pinazo's last submission to the Diputació de València, showcasing his progress during his pension in Rome, funded by the provincial corporation.
