Imports of citrus fruits from third countries have gained prominence in the EU market during May, coinciding with the end of the northern hemisphere's citrus campaign and the start of production from the southern hemisphere.

Official data from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development indicates a significant uptick in citrus entries into the European Union. This increase has been particularly pronounced in the mandarin, clementine, and orange segments.
Shipments from third countries are approaching 135,000 tons, marking the second-best figure for this month. This highlights the EU market's increasing reliance on external supplies to meet demand, especially outside the European production season.
