The City Council of Castellón has trained 140 volunteers who will participate in the special device organized for the observation of the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026.

The training session, held in the auditorium of the Castellón Tourism Center, was attended by 80 volunteers. Those unable to attend will receive the recorded session. This initiative is part of the preparation work for the operation designed by the City Council for an exceptional astronomical event that will make Castellón a privileged spot for eclipse observation, attracting thousands of visitors.
The Councilor for Tourism, Arantxa Miralles, and the Councilor for Culture, María España, inaugurated the event. They explained the organization of the device, the volunteers' roles, and key points for public attention. Miralles thanked the volunteers for their involvement, emphasizing that their collaboration will be crucial for ensuring a safe and organized experience for visitors, projecting a positive image of the city. She highlighted that the eclipse represents a unique opportunity to showcase Castellón's organizational capacity and consolidate it as a destination for major events.
For her part, María España stressed that the eclipse is also an opportunity to bring science and astronomy closer to citizens. She highlighted the role of the Planetarium of Castellón in scientific outreach and thanked the volunteers, who will be the city's best ambassadors, contributing to an enriching experience both scientifically and culturally.
Subsequently, the cultural manager of the Planetarium of Castellón, Germán Peris, gave a session focused on the astronomical phenomenon, its characteristics, and relevant scientific aspects. He also emphasized safety measures for correct observation, particularly the use of approved glasses and recommendations to prevent eye damage.
With this session, the City Council continues to advance in the preparation of the organizational device for the 2026 eclipse, where volunteers will play an essential role in informing, guiding, and supporting attendees.
