Public transport in Castellón, both the urban bus and the TRAM, will extend its service until 2:30 AM on the night of August 12th. This measure is in response to the Perseid meteor shower, expected between 11:20 PM and 1:30 AM, weather permitting. The aim is to encourage public transport use and prevent thousands of people from driving, thereby improving mobility for the expected crowds at the beach to witness this unusual astronomical phenomenon.
To facilitate this, Ferrandis Salvador avenue will be partially pedestrianized and closed to traffic from the aeroclub to the river starting at 4:00 PM. The City Council has designed a special plan including shuttle services from park-and-ride facilities (located at UJI, Refeyme, the former fairgrounds, Carrefour, and near San Cristóbal school) to the observation areas along the coast.
Four buses are planned, operating with a frequency of 15 to 20 minutes from 9:00 AM until 2:30 AM. These buses will connect with the urban bus or TRAM service, reaching the vicinity of the Planetarium and the roundabout at Camino La Plana (Pingüins). A reinforcement of the TRAM Line 1 service has also been requested from the Conselleria.
To ensure service regularity, a preferential lane for public transport will be established to minimize delays caused by general traffic. For the UJI campus, the park-and-ride facility will be linked to the TRAM, and the special shuttles will not access the university campus.
