The ruins of the La Murta monastery in Alzira will receive an injection of almost two million euros for the consolidation of the cloister and the repair of roofs, ending 16 years of investment inactivity. The Ministry of Territorial Policy has approved the reports presented by the City Council to act on the remains of the cloister, as well as on the roofs of the oil mill and the chapel of the Casona, thanks to funds allocated for reconstruction after the dana of October 2024.
The intervention in the cloister, budgeted at 1,483,196.90 euros, includes the consolidation of walls and coatings, restoration of pavements and moldings, reconstruction of some rammed earth sections, and the creation of a light roof to protect the complex from leaks and humidity caused by heavy rainfall.
Additionally, 482,000 euros will be invested in repairing the roofs of the oil mill and the chapel of the Casona, as well as in correcting humidity and structural damage. The reconstruction of an exterior wall of the Casona with adequate drainage is also planned.
The council has submitted a report for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Casona, with an estimated investment of over 920,000 euros, which includes roof repairs, drainage, and waterproofing, as well as structural restoration. Furthermore, a project is being drafted to repair the forest track leading to the Creu del Cardenal, with an estimated investment of 392,000 euros, due to damage caused by runoff.
Aside from these actions, the Torre dels Coloms remains pending restoration by the Ministry of Culture. Although a budget of 1.2 million euros was included in 2021, the allocation of only 345,000 euros in the 2026 budget has raised doubts about its execution. The Alzira City Council has also submitted a project for the rehabilitation of the monastery church, with an estimated investment of 1.2 million euros, to make the crypts accessible.
