Castellón province's labor market shows general improvement, with fewer unemployed individuals and more contracts. However, youth unemployment remains a significant issue, with a rate that triples the provincial average.
According to the latest update of the Active Population Survey (EPA) at the end of the second quarter of the year, 31.4% of young people aged 16 to 24 are unemployed. This figure contrasts with the 10% overall unemployment in the province. In absolute terms, there are 6,500 young people without jobs, one in five of the total unemployed.
The situation has improved notably compared to the previous year, with a 17-point decrease in the youth unemployment rate, which reached an exorbitant 48.7% in the second quarter of 2025. Despite this improvement, the gender gap persists: the unemployment rate for young women is 36.8%, while for men under 24 it stands at 27%.
The contrast with other age groups is significant. Between 25 and 34 years old, the unemployment rate drops to 10.3%, close to the provincial average. For individuals aged 55 to 64, it is 12.9%, and for those over 65, it is 9.8%. The lowest rates are recorded among those aged 35 to 44 (6.1%) and 45 to 54 (6.6%).
