The urban renaturalization plan 'Onda Bonica + Natural' has reached 60% completion, already incorporating over 170 new trees and creating green spaces and climate refuges. This municipal strategy's primary objective is to improve the city's adaptation to high temperatures and enrich the urban environment with more vegetation.
Notable actions include the transformation of Plaza España into a climate refuge, with the planting of 50 trees and the installation of a cooling system. A new edible garden has also been created in the Parque de las Tres Culturas, featuring over 40 fruit trees and native vegetation, along with shelters for local fauna. The pedestrian promenade towards El Carmen has been renaturalized, adding 88 trees and establishing a green corridor.
The MICO Gaming Zone and the installation of new planters with vegetation on Monseñor Fernando Ferris street are other completed interventions. These initiatives, evolving from the 'Onda Bonica' program, address citizen demands for more shade and natural spaces.
The mayor of Onda, Carmina Ballester, has highlighted that the plan enhances residents' daily lives by providing more pleasant areas for walking and socializing. The investment in the new Paseo Healthy Cities Sanitas in El Carmen amounted to 40,000 euros, funded by Sanitas, to promote physical activity and contact with nature.
“"The objective is to improve residents' daily lives with more shade, trees, and pleasant public spaces for walking, socializing, and enjoying the city."
The 'Onda Bonica + Natural' program, launched in September 2025, continues the 'Onda Bonica' initiative, which had already implemented over 40 improvement projects in streets and squares. The new strategy fundamentally integrates renaturalization and climate change adaptation as key criteria.
