The incident occurred during the total solar eclipse, when Local Police received a call from 112 reporting a possible fire near the ITV inspection station. Several officers were dispatched quickly and located the fire and the person allegedly responsible.
The officers managed to extinguish the flames before they spread, thus preventing a larger area from being affected under adverse weather conditions. The intervention was crucial to prevent further damage to the surroundings.
The burning took place despite level 3 pre-emergency for extreme fire risk being in effect, a situation that prohibits lighting fires in open spaces. Local Police reported the man based on the Forestry Law 43/2003.
This conduct is considered a serious infraction, which can result in fines ranging from 1,001 to 100,000 euros. Local Police reminded the public of the danger of such reckless actions, especially during periods of high risk.
No personal injuries or significant spread of the fire to other areas were reported.
