Villarreal CF has kicked off their 2026 Como Cup campaign with a dominant performance against Al-Ula of Saudi Arabia. The match, held at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia stadium, saw the Yellow Submarine establish a clear 3-0 advantage before the half-hour mark.
The goals came swiftly. In the 7th minute, Ayoze Pérez opened the scoring, converting an assist from Álex Forés. Shortly after, in the 18th minute, Ayoze Pérez scored again, finishing a cross from the left by Cardona after Álex Forés had cleverly let the ball pass in the six-yard box.
Prior to the goals, Villarreal had already threatened with clear chances. In the 14th minute, young right-back César Bonafé struck a powerful shot against the crossbar. Minutes earlier, Álex Forés had a great opportunity in a one-on-one situation that went wide.
The match is part of the Como Cup 2026 group stage, where Villarreal will also face the hosts, Como 1907. The 'groguet' club has already played two previous matches in this competition, suffering a defeat against Benfica (2-0) and securing a victory against PSV (1-3).
The starting lineup for Villarreal, chosen by Iñigo Pérez, included players such as Yoann Barbet, who had a dangerous free-kick opportunity in the 2nd minute that narrowly missed the crossbar.
