The implementation of learning situations has provided an opportunity to rethink teaching from more competence-based approaches connected to students' reality. However, in many cases, the design of these proposals continues to reproduce homogeneous models that create barriers to participation. Universal Design for Learning (UDL 3.0) offers a pedagogical framework to design accessible, flexible, and cognitively enriched learning situations from the outset, anticipating student variability and fostering more inclusive learning experiences.
Designing with UDL involves going beyond adapting activities. It means considering access, participation, autonomy, self-regulation, identity, and deep thinking from the very beginning of didactic planning. It signifies constructing proposals with 'low floors, high ceilings, and wide walls,' where each student can participate based on their strengths and advance in their learning.
This course, which will be held online, aims to support educators in designing inclusive learning situations that are coherent with the curriculum, integrating UDL 3.0, constructive alignment, formative assessment, and active methodological strategies to address the real diversity in the classroom.
The course will run from November 4 to December 11, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Participation will be online, either live or on-demand. The program includes modules on the UDL 3.0 framework, identifying barriers, designing for variability, motivation and self-regulation, constructive alignment and formative assessment, as well as multilevel programming and active methodologies.
The sessions will be led by Coral Elizondo, an expert lecturer in UDL and educational neuroscience, and David García Pérez, a tutor-professor at UNED Vila-real and specialist in high abilities. The course direction is by Lucía Sánchez-Tarazaga Vicente, a titular professor at Universitat Jaume I.
To obtain a certificate of attendance, participants must complete a final project involving the design of inclusive learning situations based on the UDL approach. For the on-demand modality, an online questionnaire with a brief summary of the course content will also be required.
