The town dedicated an emotional day to gathering, tradition, and recognizing a life tied to the municipality. The day began with the traditional mass honoring the elderly at the Parish of San Jaime, a deeply rooted event in the festive program. Following the religious celebration, attendees shared a fellowship meal, which becomes an annual meeting point for the older residents.
One of the most moving moments was the recognition of the two oldest residents of Oropesa del Mar. Siblings Pepita Ahis Sirvent, 96, and Jaime Ahis Sirvent, 99, received the affection of attendees as protagonists of this traditional tribute. The recognition holds particular symbolic significance for Jaime, who will turn 100 next December.
The Councilor for Festivities, David Juárez, stated: "It is a very beautiful feeling to see our elders gathered on a day dedicated to them. They are the ones who have passed on our customs, our traditions, and much of who we are. This day is also a way to recognize and thank all that they have contributed throughout their lives, their effort, their dedication, and the legacy they leave us."
For his part, the mayor, Rafael Albert, highlighted: "The day for the elderly is one of the most special and emotional days of our festivities. I want to honor the Ahis siblings, who at almost 100 years old attend this celebration every year."
Through their lives, the two siblings represent a part of Oropesa del Mar's recent memory and history, and they once again received the affection of their neighbors on a day conceived precisely to thank the contribution of several generations to the municipality.
