The Mayor of Castelló, Begoña Carrasco, accompanied by the Councilor for Social Welfare, Clara Adsuara, visited the Edifici Borrull today to gain firsthand knowledge of the new facilities' operation. The aim is to highlight the new era this represents for social care in the city.
Carrasco recalled that the relocation of all Basic Social Services and services for the Central District, previously housed in the 'Quatre Cantons' building, has been completed. The mayor emphasized that the Edifici Borrull has become a key space for citizen attention and resident well-being, boasting over 2,000 m2 of modern and functional facilities.
The mayor stressed that the building symbolizes a leap in quality for social service provision, dignifying care for citizens and offering professionals better workspaces. This initiative is complemented by a reinforcement of the municipal staff, leading to the creation of 8 new structural positions for social workers and social educators.
Regarding direct care, the Basic Primary Social Services have assisted 1,716 families referred from Social Inclusion, Prevention and Family Intervention services, or the Personal Autonomy Promotion service.
The City Council allocated over 2.8 million euros in 2025 for Social Emergency aid and autonomy improvement benefits, with more than 5,400 aids approved. These include food and hygiene assistance (1.6 million euros), basic expenses like electricity, water, or gas, and rental aid (over 1.1 million euros).
The Social Inclusion Itinerary program, launching in Castelló, supports individuals with limited resources and at risk of exclusion to foster their employment integration. Currently, 190 people are participating, with 15 professionals hired.
The Mental Health Attention and Follow-up Service (SASEM), in collaboration with the Generalitat Valenciana, provides comprehensive care to registered residents of Castelló and their families. The program has already engaged with 22 individuals.
The City Council has allocated over 2 million euros to 37 social entities receiving agreements, the highest figure since 2019, with most agreements seeing increases between 5% and 20%.
Carrasco concluded that the Edifici Borrull represents an opportunity to advance towards more accessible, personalized, and people-centered social care, demonstrating the municipal commitment to a city that cares for and supports its residents.
The mayor also recalled that the current municipal government, with the support of the Generalitat, has ensured that Castelló residents are served in these facilities, overcoming previous disputes.
